Jeet Kune Do is not a specific style or art, but a system of training methods that teaches the individual to adapt. Students train multiple skillsets for kickboxing, boxing, trapping, clinch, and groundfighting. Through experience in sparring and a wide range of other dynamic training methods, they develop the ability to combine these skills in order to adapt to any situation. As the individual becomes confident in the face of increasing difficulty and complexity, more difficult situations including multiple assailants, weapons, and environmental concerns are introduced. The first goal in JKD training is to develop effective skills in each of these areas. Because each individual has a unique body type and personality, unique strengths and weaknesses, and our own preferences and experiences, every student is encouraged to develop the skills and strategies that best suit his or her own personal needs. Once a foundation of physical fitness and effective self-preservation skills has been established, the student begins to shape his or her own path forwards.
