Super Mega February Update

Written by Chris Saturday, 04 February 2012 10:03

Hi All,

It's been an entire month without a big update. Here's a pretty exciting one to kick off February!

1) Welcome to our new members: Erich, Charis, Laasya, and Caitlyn, and welcome BACK to Jack, Eileen, and Mimi! If you have the opportunity to work with them in classes, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.

2) Congratulations to our new belt promotions in the AMMA Heroes and Mighty Heroes kids programs! The new belt testing & promotions ceremony was held on Friday, January 27th, and the students did an OUTSTANDING job. I'm extremely proud of the effort they put into preparing, and the energy they displayed at their test. Well done!

3) Congratulations to Brett, Josh, Ramon, Tyler for being accepted into the MSDC Elite program! These gentlemen are already doing a fantastic job in their new classes. If you work with them in class, please take note of what excellent partners they are. I am tremendously impressed, and I congratulate them on a job well done!

4) Mr. Roy Harris will be here March 28-April 1 to teach his Apprentice Level Grappling Instructor Course. This 5-day, 40-hour course is designed to help someone gain a foundation in teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other grappling disciplines. The course requires 1 year of grappling experience.

If you're planning to take the course, you will need to provide:
A) A letter of intent, stating why you want to take the course, what you hope to gain from it, and what you plan to bring to the association
B) A letter from your grappling instructor (probably me) confirming that you meet the experience requirement
C) 3 letters of recommendation (referencing your character, not your grappling)
D) A $100 deposit is due one week from today (Friday, February 10th). Please provide a check made out to Roy Harris (you can turn this in to me, and I will hold all letters of recommendation and other materials with it). The balance of the course fee is due at the time of the course (total cost is $500).

I have already received deposits from several of you, but I know there are some stragglers who plan to take the course but have not yet turned these in. Please bring them in ASAP to hold your space in the course!

If you have already taken a different instructor course with Mr. Harris, you can skip requirement C.

If you have already taken this course before and are re-taking it, the full course fee is $100.

5) We have a SLEW of events coming up in the next two months. Here is a quick guide:

Sunday, February 12th

Please contact Chris to reserve a space in his schedule ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Stay tuned for more information about each of these events. There are a few more on the horizon as well.

6) This month's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are focused on the High Mount, and some really cool techniques underneath the Mount. Jeet Kune Do Essentials classes are focusing on the Israeli Military Art of Krav Maga! These are SUPER fun topics. Don't miss 'em!

That's it for today. See you in class!

Happy New Year! January 2012 Update

Written by Chris Monday, 02 January 2012 12:45

Hi All,

Happy New Year!  I hope you enjoyed a safe and happy holiday.  I have a few fun things to share with you as we head into 2012:

1)  The New Class Schedule goes into effect today! Many of you had a chance to preview our new programs (Budoshin Ju-jitsu and Krav Maga) during last week’s special workshops.  We had a lot of fun exploring these classes during the preview sessions!

http://www.modernselfdefense.com/about-msdc/class-schedule.html

2)  Limited class schedule this Wednesday – Saturday:

This week will be unusual because I will be heading to Washington, DC on Wednesday morning, along with Jose & Lena.  We’re attending an intense 4-day conference on increasing the value in our programs.  I’m already excited to come home and implement what we’ll be learning this week!

While we’re away, there will be a partial class schedule in place:

Wednesday:  11am Elite No-Gi BJJ and 12noon JKD cancelled.

5pm Mighty Heroes and 7pm BJJ are on.

Thursday:  5pm Krav Maga and 6pm Combat Athletes cancelled.

5:15 Heroes, 6pm JKD, and 6:45 Elite JKD Trapping are on.

Friday:  11am Elite BJJ, 12noon BJJ, 5:15 Heroes, and 7pm FMA Weapons cancelled.

7:45pm Elite BJJ Escapes is on.

Saturday:  11am Budoshin JJ and 12noon JKD cancelled

Things will return to normal on Monday, January 9th.  Thanks for your patience while we’re travelling.

3) I am pleased to announce the dates that Mr. Roy Harris will be visiting us this year:

Apprentice Grappling Instructor Course:  March 28 – April 1

Mr. Harris will conduct his entry level Grappling Instructor course.  This 5-day, 40-hour course will meet Wednesday, March 28 through Sunday, April 1.  The cost is $500.  Please see Chris for information about registering for this course.

Annual Roy Harris Seminar:  Saturday July 7th & Sunday July 8th

Topics have not yet been decided.  We expect to see both JKD and BJJ topics this year.

Level 3 Jeet Kune Do Instructor Course:  Monday July 9th – Friday July 13th

This Level 3 course is for current Level 2 instructors.  The topic of the Level 3 course is the Clinch range.

You can see Mr. Harris’ FULL seminar schedule for 2012 by going here:

http://www.royharris.com/2012-seminar-schedule

Remember that belt tests and private lessons with Mr. Harris can be scheduled for any of his visits to MSDC.  Please contact Chris in order to schedule (or learn more about) these.

4)  Mega Student Resource

The instructors and I have begun working on a MEGA student resource for all of you.  In order to make it as helpful as possible, I’d love it if you’d take 2 minutes and answer three simple questions about what you’d like to see in this resource.  Click this link to answer those questions now (It’s multiple choice, I promise):

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NYBNJ2T

Thanks in advance for giving us some feedback on the resource.  It’ll be chock full of really good stuff!

That’s all for today.  I’ll see you all at MSDC!

Best,

~Chris

Early December Update

Written by Chris Sunday, 04 December 2011 10:59

Hi folks,

I have just a couple of quick updates today:

1)  MSDC hoodies and t-shirts are incoming.  They have given me a tentative shipping date of 12/14, so I'm hoping to see them by the 20th.

2)  If you haven't seen the new class January class schedule, you can view it here:   http://www.modernselfdefense.com/about-msdc/class-schedule.html

I'm pretty excited about the new classes we'll be adding!

3)  JKD students -- I just posted a video onto MSDCmembers.com of Guro Dan Inosanto demonstrating a variety of Kali techniques.  Guro Dan is a *whirlwind* in action.  It also contains some of the things we're working on this month in the JKD Essentials classes, as well as what we've been drilling in the Elite Trapping class and the upcoming Elite Weapons class.  It's a short video -- check it out when you get a chance!

4)  Our Heroes and Mighty Heroes in the AMMA kids program are putting on a Food Drive this month, and they'd love your support!  Here's a quick video explaining what's going on:

End of November Updates

Written by Chris Tuesday, 29 November 2011 08:50

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a safe & happy Thanksgiving!  Here are a few updates for you as November comes to a close:

1)  The new 2012 class schedule has been posted on both ModernSelfDefense.com and MSDCmembers.com.  You can see it here:

http://www.modernselfdefense.com/about-msdc/class-schedule.html

Be sure to scroll down below the current schedule in order to see it.  Because of all the new programs we've added in 2011 and 2012, we had to color-code the new schedule to make it easier to follow!

2)  Reminder to BJJ students who are blue belt & above, and are planning to test for a new belt in the next 12 months:  that event we keep talking about, way off in the future, on December 3rd, is THIS SATURDAY.  That's right, December 3rd is upon us!  The event will go from 2pm - 5pm.  Please plan to be there for the entire 3 hour session.  There is no fee for this event--you will pay for it with your sweat and hard work!  Please remember to wear your full gi.  I look forward to seeing you there!

3)  For BJJ White belts, this is a reminder that stripe testing will take place in classes today and tomorrow.  If you need to make alternate arrangements, please see me or Jordan.

4)  The MSDC hoodies are on their way!  I'm excited to get my hands on one of the new, full-zip ones.

5)  Stay tuned for an upcoming message about a special project going on this December.  It deserves its own update.

See you at MSDC!

~Chris

A personal story, and some cool news about MSDC!

Written by Chris Monday, 07 November 2011 16:44

Hi All,

I'm excited to bring you some news today.  For me, the story is rather personal.

Do you have any projects that you've just never gotten around to finishing?  I think we all do.  And if you're like me, you have one or two of those projects that really drive you crazy.  From time to time you are reminded that you're not moving forwards with those projects, and I know that it eats me up inside when I'm neglecting a project that has real value to it.

This past weekend, I was very fortunate -- I was able to address not one, but TWO of those projects in my own life.  And I'm telling you about it because they will both affect YOU, my friends at MSDC, in the very near future!

In the late spring of 2002, when I stopped teaching dance full time, I came back into the Martial Arts with incredible enthusiasm.  Even though I was still training, I had missed exploring new territory, learning new arts, and developing new skills.  So that year, I started training in a number of new Martial Arts, and under several high level instructors.

As I started to progress in these systems, some of them took center stage and forced others to wait on the sidelines.  Over time, I started to become frustrated that I couldn't train all of them with the same intensity at the same time.  Some of them would have to wait.  And this is where the tough part came in:

Two of the arts that were left out of the spotlight were styles I really enjoyed -- Budoshin Ju-jitsu and Krav Maga.  Budoshin is a traditional Japanese style of Ju-jitsu, which blends elements of Karate, Judo, Aikido, as well as some other unique techniques into a rich blend of classical training.  Krav Maga is a hard-hitting, in your face, aggressive and hands-on discipline for the 21st century.  Both of them are awesome, and I really enjoy training them.

So over time, I started missing these two arts in my training, and it was bumming me out.  I'm excited to say that I put some work in, and now BOTH of these arts are coming to MSDC, and you'll have the opportunity to train them!

This past Saturday, I (finally) earned my Black Belt in Budoshin Ju-jitsu.  I drove down to Arlington, Virginia for the chance to train and test under my instructor, Professor George Kirby (10th degree black belt and head of the Budoshin Ju-jitsu system).  With Sensei Kirby's blessing, we are adding Budoshin JJ to our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Elite schedule at the beginning of the new year.

As if THAT wasn't enough, during my trip I was able to log some training with my friend Sean Stoopman, who is a Krav Maga black belt and the head of a new organization -- Adaptive Krav Maga International.  I'm pleased to announce that MSDC will be AKMI's first affiliated location, and we will be adding Krav Maga to the JKD Essentials and Elite programs in January.

So despite my embarassment over YEARS of feeling that I wasn't giving these two styles the attention they deserve, I am THRILLED to announce that we'll be starting classes in BOTH of these arts in less than 2 months.  There are a couple other new classes headed onto the schedule at the end of the year, so keep your eyes and ears open for more juicy details as that draws nearer.

And if there's a moral to this story, it's this:  That thing you want to go do?  GO DO IT.  Take the plunge.  Get it done.  You'll be so glad that you did.  And if your project is anything like mine, other people will also benefit from it!  So whatare you waiting for??? :)

See you all at MSDC!

~Chris

End of October Update

Written by Chris Tuesday, 25 October 2011 14:57

Hi everyone,

Here are a couple updates for the end of October:

1)  We had a great time at the free Halloween Safety Workshop earlier this month.  The instructors put together a fantastic set of lessons and activities for the kids.  Stay tuned for next month, when the AMMA team will be offering:

5 Secrets of Successful Students! Does your child dread school?  Not anymore.  Bring your children and join us for a great (and free) workshop on Saturday, November 19th at 2pm.  This seminar will also include a free sneak peek at how we integrate these habits of success into our Adaptive Movement Martial Arts program for kids!  Children ages 4 & up are welcome.

2)  I’d like to give a warm welcome to a few new students in September & October:   David, Brett, Josh, Katrina, Jake, Jake, Matt, Kari, Taavi, Ramon, and Tellafario!

Also, welcome back to a couple of familiar faces who reappeared this month (Rashid, Eric, and Alex).

And BIG congratulations to Adem for his acceptance into MSDC’s Elite program!

3)  Yesterday, we hosted the Aikido / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu doubleheader workshop.  It was a blast!  That mats were full and the partners were flying.  Thanks to Chris Condon and Eric Klotch for driving down from Boston to teach the Aikido session, as well everyone who attended – I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and learned some cool stuff.  If you’re a Facebook user (and I bet you are), I encourage you to go and “like” the Needham / Newton Aikido dojo, and to post a word of thanks on their wall.  I’ll be posting a video highlight reel soon!

4)   Attention Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students:  if you’re currently a blue belt or above, and you’re thinking about testing for a new belt in the next year, you NEED to attend this event!

On Saturday, December 3rd, I will host a training session for those looking to test for purple belt or higher in the next 12 months.  We will go over exam-specific preparations, as well as plenty of training for your current rank.  This workshop will begin at 2pm and will last approximately 3 hours.  Please plan to attend the entire event.  There is no fee for this workshop – you will pay for it in sweat and effort!

5)  Behind the scenes, we are changing some things around to make the "little things" better.  In the next couple months, your email receipts from MSDC will change--we're switching to a new billing system.  The new one should be pretty user-friendly (and its emails should be much easier to read).  Please excuse any hiccups as we change over.

6)  Upcoming Holidays:  MSDC is open on Halloween, and on Veteran’s Day (Friday, November 11th).  We will, however, be closed November 24th, 25th, and 26th for Thanksgiving.

That’s all for now.  See you in class!

~Chris

PS - Are you a fan of the Modern Self-Defense Center on Facebook?  What about our kids program -- Adaptive Movement Martial Arts? Or Adaptive Movement Parkour?  Check out all 3 on Facebook today, and don't forget to "like" us!

October Events - so many it needs it own update!

Written by Chris Wednesday, 28 September 2011 08:50

Good morning all!

There are so many special events at MSDC this October that I thought I'd send out a special email with all the details.  Here we go!

1)  Kids' Halloween Safety Workshop -- On Saturday, October 8th, we'll be hosting a FREE and open-to-the-public Halloween Safety Workshop for kids ages 4 & up.  This special class will start at 2pm and be done by 3:30 (we'll get you all in & out quickly so that you can get on with your weekend plans), and will be taught be the instructors of our new AMMA Heroes & Mighty Heroes kids program!  We'll go over some info about costume safety, trick or treating, safe candy, and the ONE item everyone should have when they leave the house on Halloween!  There will be games and activities, as well as some hands-on learning on the mats.  There's no need to pre-register for this one, but if you're on Facebook, you can let us know you're attending -- and feel free to repost the event or share it with friends who might be interested!

2)  Handgun Safety Class -- For the month of September, the JKD Essentials classes have been focused on defensive techniques against someone with a Firearm.  Some folks in the class already have experience handling real firearms, but for the many of you that do not, I want to give you the opportunity to learn how to safely handle a gun.  Now, I was a little worried about whether or not we could schedule a class in such a short stretch of time, so I set-up TWO workshops in case one of them didn't work out.  Well...they both worked out!  So you have two options for taking the Handgun Safety Class this October:

On-Site at MSDC -- On Saturday, October 8th, Ian McMahon will be offering the Handgun Safety class, beginning at 9AM.  The classroom portion will finish around lunchtime, followed immediately by driving over to the range and completing the shooting portion of the course.  The fee for the on-site course will be $120, with a $60 deposit due to MSDC by Monday, October 3rd. Transportation may be available -- please contact Ian directly at 860-930-6435 with questions, or for range details.

Off-Site -- On Friday, October 7th & Saturday October 8th, Jeff Whiteley will also be offering a Handgun Safety class.  The classroom portion is scheduled from 5pm - 10pm on Friday, October 7th, at 206 Saybrook Road, in Haddam.  The following morning, the live shooting portion will be held from 8am - 11:30am at the Middletown R&R Club, which is only a few minutes from MSDC.  The fee for the off-site course is $80, with a $50 deposit due to Jeff's company, TASK LLC, by Monday, October 3rd.  Please contact Jeff with any questions, either by phone at 860-250-9752 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

I have known each of these gentlemen for years, and they come highly qualified (not to mention, they are both awesome guys).  I was pretty excited at the thought of offering either one of them to you guys...offering BOTH of them absolutely THRILLS me.

3)  On Saturday, October 15th, the MSDC teaching staff has been asked to judge a local Youth Karate Tournament.  As a result, there will be no classes at MSDC that Saturday.  So enjoy a nice, autumn weekend with friends & family!

4)  Aikido / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Doubleheader -- On Sunday, October 23rd, MSDC will host a double-header workshop.  From 10am - 12noon, Chris Condon and Eric Klotch will teach Aikido.  Chris and Eric teach at the newly opened Needham / Newton Aikido in Boston, and are making their first visit down to MSDC to share with us.  Aikido is a grappling art deeply rooted in traditional Japanese custom and training, and it presents an approach focused on blending with the attack and harmonizing your movement with your opponent's.  Here's a youtube link to Chris & Eric practicing an Aikido technique called "Ikkyo":

JavaScript is disabled!
To display this content, you need a JavaScript capable browser.

Following a short lunch break, we'll go into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from 1pm - 3pm, taught by ... Chris Wright-Martell.  I'll be presenting 2 hours of information and training methods on the "Kimura" bent armlock, including plenty of material on how to control someone using this lock, and to flow around any resistance you encounter while holding it.

If you have a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi (or other traditional martial arts uniform), please wear it to the seminar.  If not, clean athleticwear will be just fine.

This doubleheader seminar is ONLY open to current students of MSDC and Needham / Newton Aikido.  I encourage you to pre-register by visiting www.ModernSelfDefense.com and clicking the link on our homepage to go to the registration page.  Right now, you can register at a discount, making it a (shockingly low) $40 for the ENTIRE DAY.  Pretty crazy!

These workshops and seminars will be a ton of fun.  One of the things I most enjoy at MSDC is the opportunity to share so many different approaches and methods with you all.  And when I don't have the experience myself, I love to be able to bring in people who do (whether it's traditional Aikido or Firearm Instruction...or whatever!).  So I hope you'll take advantage of these awesome events in the month of October.  And I have some more surprises in store for November and December!

See you at MSDC!

~Chris

PS - White Belts in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class:  stripe testing is tonight!  Be ready! :)

Mid September Update

Written by Chris Tuesday, 20 September 2011 16:18

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're enjoying the cool Fall air.  Here are some updates for the middle of September:

1)  On Saturday, October 8th, we will be hosting a Halloween Safety Workshop for kids 4 & up.  The workshop will run from 2pm - 3:30pm.  This workshop is open to the public and absolutely free!  All are welcome.  Tell your friends!

2)  This past Saturday, MSDC's own Ralph Purificato Jr was scheduled to make his MMA debut.  Ralph trained hard for over 3 months to prepare for this fight, including losing over 20 lbs!  Unfortunately, only a couple days before the fight, his opponent dropped out and the fight was cancelled.  So instead, we put Ralph through some challenges of our own on Saturday!  Please help me congratulate Ralph on all the hard work he put in, the progress he made, and the determination he showed during his 13 week training camp.  I'm looking forward to preparing him for another event again in the future!

3)  On Sunday, October 23rd, MSDC will host a doubleheader seminar:  Aikido and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

10am - Noon:  Aikido with Chris Condon and Eric Klotch.  Eric and Chris teach at the newly opened Needham/Newton Aikido school near Boston.  (Some of you already know and have trained with Chris -- he's an old friend of mine...and was one of the groomsmen in my wedding!).

1pm - 3pm:  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - The Kimura.  I'll be teaching 2 hours on the "Kimura", aka the Palm-down bent armlock.

Since we've been looking forward to this event for a few months now and we want to get as many people on the mat as possible, we're bringing this event to you at a STEAL of a price:  $50 for BOTH workshops.  It's going to be an awesome day.

No experience necessary.  This seminar is only open to MSDC and Needham/Newton Aikido students.  If you have a gi (uniform), please wear it.  If not, please wear comfortable athleticwear and bare feet / indoor-only training shoes.

You can pre-register for this event RIGHT NOW by going to www.ModernSelfDefense.com and clicking on the link for the Aikido / BJJ seminar. If you register by Saturday, October 15th, you'll receive an ADDITIONAL $10 discount, making it only $40 for the whole day!   Click here to go there now!

4)  Attention Jeet Kune Do students:  EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, gentlemen will need to wear groin protection for the rest of this month's JKD Essentials Classes.  We will be practicing a new technique this week, and you will NOT want to do this without a cup on!  If you've been enjoying this month's curriculum, you'll LOVE this new move.  It's a pretty awesome technique, so I think you'll enjoy training it quite a bit, BUT that will not be the case if you aren't properly protected!  For the rest of the month of September, you will DEFINITELY want to remember to wear your cup!  (Ladies, you are welcome to wear groin protection too).  When October begins, you may stop wearing it, if you prefer.

5)  At the end of this month, MSDC will be hosting a Handgun Safety Class.  For those of you in the JKD Essentials classes, we have you in mind (since you've spent all month learning to handle yourself on the RECEIVING end of a firearm, we figured it'd be a nice time to teach you how to safely handle one, in case you encounter one).

We're making some last minute changes to the workshop, so I'll be re-releasing details once they are re-confirmed.  Stay tuned (and watch the homepage) for more information.

6)  Lastly, a quick reminder:  the updated schedule went onto the website at the beginning of last week.  Only a couple of tiny changes were made, and that schedule should last us through the fall.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather!  See you all at MSDC,

~Chris

Early September Update

Written by Chris Thursday, 08 September 2011 16:02

Hi All,

I hope that Hurricane Irene treated you all OK.  Other than the loss of power for a few days, MSDC came through unscathed.  Here are a few announcements for you for early September:

1)  There will be no morning & afternoon classes this Friday, September 9th, as I will be in Naples, Florida.  Many of you know Mr. Trent Lewis (another of our friends in the Harris International Grappling Association)—he was promoted a few years ago to Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Master Joe Moreira.  Well, Trent has asked to go through Mr. Roy Harris’ black belt exam as well, so I’ll be heading down to Florida to serve as one of Trent’s testing partners.  Friday evening classes (as well as all Saturday classes) will be held as usual.

2)  The AMMA kids program is up and running for the Fall!  Welcome to all the new and returning students in our Heroes (ages 7-12) and Mighty Heroes (ages 4-6) programs.  The AMMA (Adaptive Movement Martial Arts) program is a fantastic curriculum based on the Jeet Kune Do self-defense skills taught in our adults programs, and if you haven’t seen any of the classes yet, they are really fun and exciting.

3)  Speaking of the Kids program, we’ll be having a FREE workshop on Saturday, October 8th, from 2:00 – 3:30pm on “Halloween Safety”.  This free workshop is open to the public, for kids of all ages!  We invite any and all youngsters to come down and learn how to make their holiday a safe one.

4)  Jeet Kune Do Essentials classes this month are focusing on learning some basic methods of defending against an attack with a firearm.  I’m working out the final details, but it looks like we’ll also be hosting a handgun safety workshop at the end of the month.  This will be open to any MSDC students, and all participants will earn a certificate of completion (this is the same certification required by the state of Connecticut in order to apply for a License to Carry).  Stay tuned for details on this workshop!

5)  MSDC’s own Ralph Purificato, Jr will be making his amateur MMA debut next week – he’ll be fighting in Rahway, New Jersey on Saturday, 9/17.  I encourage you to come down and cheer him on in his fight!  Ralph also has some tickets for sale, if you’d like ringside seats.  If you see Ralph between now and then, wish him luck in his fight (and also congratulate him—Ralph and Christina just got engaged earlier this week!).

6)  Congratulations are also due to all our students who tested and were promoted to their next stripe in the BJJ White to Blue Class!  I am SUPER impressed with the hard work that I saw from this crew.  Congratulations to Cory, Roberto, Jeff, Jack, Ryan, and Lena on their promotions this month!

7)  Welcome back to our prodigal college students!  With the start of the school year, it’s great to see you guys coming back through the door.  I hope you all had a great summer, and I’m looking forward to all the good training we have in store for you this year.

8)  Lastly, I'd like to take a moment to express my appreciation to all the folks who have been helping out at MSDC, whether by teaching classes, working on projects, cleaning up after we lost the roof, and more.  Please know that I am deeply grateful for the time and energy that you put into our space, and our community.  Many, many thanks to you all for the kindness you contribute.

~Chris

Quick Update

Written by Chris Tuesday, 09 August 2011 08:48

Hi folks,

Today I have a couple of quick announcements:

1)  Thanks to everyone who attended the Shopping Mall Awareness workshop and the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminar this past weekend with Mr. Roy Harris.  I hope that you enjoyed yourself and found them very educational!  And if you missed them, you will have another chance next year :)

This year was especially fun for me, as we had special guests travel from a great distance to join us, including:  Mr. Seamus Walsh, from Maine; Mr. Trent Lewis, from Florida; Mr. Mike Rooney (and company), from Pennsylvania; Mr. TJ Obi, from NYC  (who came to the seminar when he should have been packing for his flight to Colombia), and Ms. Meagin Sheehan (and others) who came down from Boston.  I appreciate all of you traveling to be with us, and I look forward to seeing you again!

2)  Congratulations to MSDC’s own Simon Davis-Millis for his outstanding performance on his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt  exam!  Simon showed tremendous preparation and did a really excellent job.  I’m proud of the hard work he put in, and I invite you to help me in congratulating him.  Well done!

3)  As soon as the seminar ended, I traveled out to upstate New York for a family emergency (where I’m typing this email).  I’ll be back mid-week.  As a result, there will be no morning / early afternoon classes on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Evening classes will continue as regularly scheduled.

See you all soon,

~Chris
